Roots

Dancers performing Root dance piece
Duration

40 minutes with no intermission

Roots is the latest original work by Jiwon Ha, blending Korean and modern dance forms, exploring unity through different counting systems. This work, which originated from the fusion of two distinct counting methods in Korean dance, took on greater significance during her NC Dance Festival residency in 2023. It was in this residency that she discovered the intricate connections between traditional Korean dance and the contemporary movements embodied by dancers, Lilly Beaver and Maya Simmons. With the support of the Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, Jiwon has developed this work into a full-length show.
